MANAGING DEEP INFILTRATING ENDOMETRIOSIS
Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) is a more advanced form of the condition, where endometriosis extends beneath the surface of the pelvic organs and tissues. It can involve the bowel, bladder, ureters or the area between the vagina and rectum, and often requires more detailed surgical planning than superficial disease.
Women with DIE may experience more severe symptoms, including deep pelvic pain, pain with bowel movements or urination, and cyclical bowel or bladder symptoms. Because the disease can sit close to structures such as the ureters and bowel, surgery for DIE requires precise dissection to treat affected areas while protecting surrounding organs.
